Summer of Service with the Gullah Geechee Community

Fourteen B.N. Duke Scholars are working with the Gullah Geechee Community this summer. The ten week long Carolina Summer of Service began in late May. Scholars in this photo are showing off baskets they made after a lesson from an expert sweet grass basket maker. Basket weaving is a fine craft of the Gullah Geechee community. Click here to visit the scholars’ blog posts for a flavor of how their summer is going.
